Meet Lucy!

Meet Lucy, a beautiful thoroughbred cross that was abandoned in Tubac, AZ without food and water, until the neighbors stepped in to help her. For three weeks, Lucy was left with barely any water, and only an intermittent pile of hay. She was 300 lbs underweight. Lucy is sweet, beautiful and kind. Unfortunately, she suffered from a recto-vaginal fistula after having her foal. The baby's whereabouts are unknown, however, this injury is not new. Due to a constant infection, Lucy will need to see a surgeon at the AZ Equine Hospital in Gilbert, AZ, outside of Phoenix. We are awaiting further details and will keep you posted as soon as we have more information. Thank you to Donna Marcous, one of our caring volunteers, for making us aware of Lucy's situation and for caring enough to help bring her to safety at Equine Voices. Donna transported Lucy to the sanctuary on April 10th, and now Lucy will finally receive the care she needs and deserves.

April is Volunteer Appreciation month! For those volunteers that continue to work diligently to help the horses in our care, WE THANK YOU!!! Equine Voices began in 2004, with one person and six horses.. shortly after, fifteen Pony Skins arrived while on the brink of death. One died, the others, survived. Two still reside at the sanctuary, Carly and Chavali, after their adoption failed. At the beginning, there was no help, and slowly, with time, individuals who cared deeply about our cause came. They say, "If you build it, they will come!" This is our story. So the people started coming. They started showing up during the heat of the summer, (dry heat or not, it's hot during the summer months!), they showed up during the holidays, during the down pours of the monsoon rains, during the winters when it's been 20 degrees and snow on the ground, and they dedicated their time, their money, and their hearts, and poured all of their gifts to help get Equine Voices up and running. Today, sixteen years later, we continue to have an amazing group of caring, loving and dedicated individuals, who continue to serve, and continue to help the horses that need us most! We would not be here without all of you! On behalf of our Board of Directors and Staff, we THANK YOU!
